"So," Dorothy said. "I'd like to get to know you."
"I thought we have been getting to know each other, we've gone on a date every night this week," Ruby replied. They were standing outside the door to Dorothy's room.
"I mean," Dorothy looked at the floor and reached out for Ruby's hand. She squeezed her hand and then met Ruby's eyes. "Really get to know you."
"Oh," Ruby's cheeks flushed pink.
"We don't have to. Not if you don't want to."
"No, no, I want to," Ruby said.
Dorothy saw hesitation in Ruby's green eyes. "It's okay, we can take this slow."
"No, it's not that, I want to..." her voice went low, "it's just I've never...gotten to know another girl before."
Dorothy took her other hand too. "When you're ready, we'll take our time."
Ruby nodded slowly, she stepped in to close the space between them. After a few moments she got closer still and kissed the woman who made her feel like no one else ever had before.
Dorothy smiled. "Goodnight Wolfie." She kissed her again and then started to move away.
Ruby squeezed both her hands and gently pulled Dorothy back to her. They shared a long, deep kiss. Slow and loving and yet with a spark of something more carnal.
"We can wait," Dorothy said reluctantly. "We can wait."
"I've been looking for you all my life," Ruby said. "I'm done waiting."
"If you're sure."
"I'm sure," Ruby nodded.
Dorothy led her into the bedroom.
