On the edge of the diving board Barb sat, alone, her feet dangling in the warm water of the swimming pool.
She wondered if Steve had talked Nancy into it yet. It was bad enough knowing that they made out. But now that he was going to be touching her there was a dark screaming chasm inside.
Barb stared into pool, the blue shimmering in the lights as the movement of her feet rippled the water. She wished she was with Nancy. She wished she could be the one exploring new and exciting feelings with her. She wished for the secret fantasies she had, touching herself under her bed sheets when she was sure no one else was awake at home.
She knew it was stupid and she knew it could never happen, but Barb couldn't help the way she felt. She couldn't help that Nancy was so beautiful and smart and fun to be around.
It was so unfair that Steve fucking Harrington could just taste the forbidden fruit she yearned for.
The cut on her hand throbbed. A drop of blood fell into the water and the lights went out.
Thoughts of her crush vanished.
Replaced by fear.
