Summary: Redemption isn't easy, but sometimes that doesn't matter.
When Cheedo starts spending time in Furiosa's workshop, sitting atop the hood of a truck too broken for more than scrap, Furiosa doesn't chase her away. Cheedo doesn't get in the way, doesn't touch things without asking, never speaks - until one day, she does.
"Why do you hide?"
"What do you mean?" Furiosa asks.
"You watch us, but you're always - " Cheedo waves a hand, frowning. "Separate. Somewhere else."
"I did you wrong," Furiosa says, like that's enough to explain it, and maybe it is. But when she thinks about stepping across that distance, there's a hunger in her for something that isn't hers to take - absolution or innocence or something far less admirable. It's weakness, whatever it is. Cheedo looks up at her, penetrating despite the softness that lingers in her face, and Furiosa knows by the ache in her chest that it would be better to be elsewhere.
"All of us, yes. And then you helped us get free."
"You think that evens the scales?"
"Do you?"
Furiosa shakes her head, trying to push past, but Cheedo intercepts her, nervous, resolute. They're calling her the Bold these days, a name earned on the Fury Road. It would take boldness to do what she does, and lay her palm against Furiosa's chest, forbidding escape.
"Angharad forgave you," she says, like a secret long-kept. "She didn't think she could, but she did. We all do."
Just that, and then she's gone, leaving only empty space behind her.
She's back the next day. Furiosa doesn't chase her away.
