Dorothy looks up as the phone rings again. She doesn't make a move to answer it. She doesn't need to, because already, Blanche is jumping on it like an eager virgin on a prostitute on nickel night. Dorothy smirks. Blanche is worth far more than a nickel and never has to pay for it. Men are always lining up to date her friend, and the reason is no secret. Blanche welcomes them all eagerly.
Dorothy's chin rests on her palm as she doodles on her napkin. She should be grading papers, but she can't focus tonight, not with Blanche hopping on the phone every few seconds. "Dorothy, don't you wanna take one o' these man off mah hands, shugah?" Dorothy shakes her head. That's not what she wants, either.
She smiles in fond memory as she finishes her image. The men Blanche dates don't get to see this symbol until their sixth date, if they make it that far, but she knows every trace, and every wrinkle upon which the tattoo is etched, intimately.
"What are you grinnin' at?" Blanche looks over her shoulder and blushes crimson. "Why, Dorothy Zbornak!" She grins. "Ya know, Ah may just have about an hour before mah first date arrives f'r th' evening."
Dorothy's grin answers hers as she drops her pencil. She follows her eagerly from the room, suddenly finding a spring in her own step. An hour may not be long, but she'll take whatever time Blanche is willing to give her.
