Prompt: Drabble Tag 6 - ice
Fandom: The Last Airbender
Pairing: Azula/Mai
Rating: M
Word count: 200

Funny, thinks Mai, how Azula’s presence never warms a room. The warrior princess is an unparalleled firebender, greatest in her generation. But her fire, for all that it burns and makes her sweat in her dark robes, is blue and cold. Her smile is sharp steel, her gaze chilling.

Azula is ice and burns you like frostbite does. Mai wonders if that only makes her more deadly, then wonders why in the name of every spirit does she want to get closer. Why is she like a moth to a flame when she knows she’ll only get burned?

When she first locked eyes with her princess after years of separation, she was lightning struck. Azula might have bended the rays herself for all Mai noticed in her stupor. And now every night she can only think of sinewy muscles beneath black armor, of raven-eagle golden eyes, of painted nails and close-lipped smirks (the only way Azula really smiles). In her dreams she compares skin tones, her body’s whiteness against Azula’s creamy hands. Her robes feel heavy and restricting when Azula is close. And for all that Azula is ice, every rare contact makes Mai’s blood boil and her temperature rise.
