She walks into the room Lou is in holding a coffee cup. She says nothing, only extends the hand with the cup of coffee out to Lou. Lou stares at her for long seconds, appraising her before she finally takes the cup, their fingers brushing slightly against each other. The coffee is black and bitter.

Just like Lou, she thinks.

She turns to go, but is stopped by Lou's voice. "You brought me coffee." She stops, but does not turn around. "You never brought Josh coffee, but you brought me coffee."

She opens her mouth to say that she did bring Josh coffee, once, twice, she can't remember how many times exactly. Instead she looks at Lou over her shoulder and a ghost of a smile plays on her lips.

"I thought you might need the caffeine. Long night and all." And then she's gone.

Hours later, Lou brings her coffee, rousing her out of sleep. The coffee is creamy and sweet.

Just like Donna, Lou thinks, her hand roaming over Donna's thigh.

"You brought me coffee." She yawns.

"I thought you might need the caffeine. Long night and all."

Lou's hand moves slowly higher. Donna grins.

Long night indeed.

Annabeth awoke to find CJ already up and drinking a cup of coffee. "You're addicted to that stuff you know." She mumbled as she crawled out of bed.

"The entire Senior Staff is. How you're not is a matter of great wonder."

"I was always told it would stunt my growth." Annabeth called from the bathroom.

CJ leaned against the door frame and looked at the smaller woman. "Yeah. How'd that work out for you?" She teased as she took another long drink. "I think," she whispered conspiratorially, "that you've been lied to."

"Funny. Let's make another joke at the expense of the short girl." Annabeth moved back to the bedroom.

CJ shrugged. "Beats another joke at the expense of the tall girl."

"All that caffeine has got to be bad for you. What do you have, six cups a day?"

"A morning." CJ smiled wryly, finishing off the cup. She caught Annabeth by the wrist as she headed back to the bathroom. "You're so worried about me, you find me a substitute for the caffeine. Something that will wake me up and get my body going like coffee does, and I swear, I won't drink it anymore."

Annabeth grabbed the empty coffee cup with her free hand, and tossed it over her shoulder. She then pulled CJ's head down to crush the taller woman's lips against her own. Their tongues met while Annabeth pushed her back on the bed.

That was the last morning CJ drank coffee before work.

She remembered the first time she met Olivia. She had been up all night preparing a case, and was feeling more than a little nervous. She knew she was a damn good lawyer, knew she could win this one easy. But she was afraid of screwing up.

She was tapping her pen insistently against her desk when the coffee cup appeared before her. She was surprised to see the brunette detective standing over her. "You look like you've been up all night."

"I have." She swallowed the coffee greedily, amazed that the detective had gotten it right. One cream, one sugar.

"Just what I need, more caffeine." She joked, forcing a smile.

Olivia's warm hands were suddenly over her shaking ones. "You'll be fine."

Now she was shaking for a whole different reason.

She won the case. And thought of Olivia every time she had a cup of coffee since.

"Violet, would you pass the Skinny and Sweet?" Doralee asked as she poured herself a cup of coffee. The girls were getting ready to work on writing up some new memos that "Mr. Hart" had advised them of.

Violet handed her the yellow box. Doralee took a moment to check it before pouring some of the contents into her cup. "What, you don't trust me? Think I'm trying to kill you, like I tried to kill Hart?" Violet accused.

"Don't be stupid." Doralee laughed, taking a drink. "I just like to check the calories is all."

Violet rolled her eyes and poured some Skinny and Sweet into her own cup before heading for the door and Hart's office where Judy was waiting for them. Doralee stopped her, pushing her against the door and effectively trapping her.

"Besides, why would you try to kill me? If you did," Doralee lowered her voice and leaned in closer to Violet, "we couldn't do this anymore." Doralee kissed her. Violet quickly reciprocated.

Once they pulled away, Doralee straightened her skirt and smiled. "See. I knew you weren't trying to kill me." She winked, then walked out of the room.

Violet smirked, then followed her.
