Her hands are rough, calloused after decades of handling a sword. Muscles still corded and strong, move like iron under her skin. Her skin, itself, is a network of scars: Uncommonly smooth lines etched into her flesh. A combination of rough and smooth, hard and soft, strong and vulnerable.
She calls herself lucky because she still has all her fingers, both her arms, both her legs. But I call myself luckier.
I still have her walking beside me, still have her strong arms to hold me, still have her calloused hands to brush away my fears and bring me peace.
