"Do you ever think about the road you didn't take?"
"You mean, the one that would have taken me anywhere else but with you?"
"Yes, but I try not to." She smiles down at her. "I don't like what it would have held for me." She leans down and kisses her full lips, then explains, "Anywhere but with you is a place I don't want to be."
Xena grins. Her fingers thread into Gabrielle's long, blonde hair, and she angles the bard's mouth down on top of hers again. She kisses her long and deep, letting her tongue and lips tell her how much she agrees and likes her answer. Like her life partner, she, too, has considered what other roads her life may have taken, but she agrees wholeheartedly with Gabby's assessment: Anywhere but with her is a place she doesn't want to be.
Every step of her life has brought her to these moments spent with her, and so there's nothing she'd prefer to change, no other road travelled or decision made. She used to regret her past, but she no longer truly does. After all, if she hadn't been such a killer, she wouldn't have been on the path of redemption when she'd first entered Gabrielle's village, and they may never have met. Yes, Xena thinks determinedly, there's absolutely nothing she'd change, except maybe to have met Gabby sooner. She smiles against her bard's lips and brings her down for another night spent in her loving arms.
