Ryuko hacks up a mixture of phlegm and blood and spits it out (but doesn't see where it lands, it's too dark).
Above them, one of the streetlights goes out, leaving only the headlights of passing drivers to guide them by.
Her bike was totaled, and Mako's grip on her was like a vice, Ryuko's skirt chafing a cut on her hip.
Mako had come out of the crash largely uninjured (baffling her), which is why Ryuko was semi-leaning on her for support as they walked home.
Well, Mako walked, Ryuko limped along, a large bruise forming from her ankle up to her knee. It was truly hideous.
It could have been worse, Ryuko had decided.
"Ryuko-chan! Hurry!" Mako was now urging her, "We're going to be late for dinner!"
