Helen Magnus pulled her hood up as she got out of the cab and into the rain. It was hot and humid, the rain was warm.

As she walked the short distance to her destination she lost herself in memories. She had been here to this island several times over the decades, the first time she had been on Grande Comore she had been taken hostage.

But she had also met Charlotte.

Helen went through the gate and walked up the gentle slope of the path.

After the crisis was over Helen had spent a couple of very pleasurable days in Charlotte's company, relaxing and talking and making love. They had become firm friends and had kept in touch, and from time to time had gotten together for more pleasurable days.

Helen stepped off the path and came to the headstone bearing the name Charlotte Benoit.

She had died over a hundred years ago. The world, and Helen herself, had changed much in that time. Charlotte was long forgotten. Except by Magnus.

She laid down the flowers she'd brought and stood over the grave. She remembered. Laugher and kisses and a friendship that she sorely missed.

Like so many people who had crossed her life over the centuries Charlotte was gone, lost to the beast that claimed everything: Time. Though she was gone she was not forgotten. In remembrance Helen stood in the rain.
