Summary: It's hard to tell how far away things are.
The distance bang of a gun going off echoes throughout the empty building. The sound is unmistakable. But, there is no screaming. Yet. Cosima shrinks behind her.
Sarah stops and instinctively reaches for her own, but Cosima's hand stops her. Cosima looks around frantically, her braids swishing audibly.
"Not yet," she whispers. Her eyes are big. Bigger than Sarah's ever seen them.
Shoulders tense, Sarah huffs and starts walking again, but more slowly this time, her footsteps cautious. Cosima quickly follows her, her body hunched forward, hands close to her chest.
Suddenly Sarah steps on a piece of fallen debris, the crunching sound making them both jump
Cosima gasps loudly, and Sarah mutters, "Shit."
Sarah glances behind her at Cosima. The woman's face is an interesting milky color, her lips gone white.
In the back of her mind, Sarah wonders if she'll pass out. "Chill out, Cosima," she tells her in a somewhat placating tone. "The exit can't be too far now."
She can hear Cosima's breath hitch as she protests, "But what about...that...?"
That? Oh, right, the gunshot. Her sympathy overrides the urge to roll her eyes. "That's why we gotta get the hell out of here. Now."
