The bruise on the corner of Delphine's mouth is delicate and the size of a thumb print; a sufficient size. It's color is in stark contrast to her mauve pink lips. But, Rachel finds this irrelevant.
She presses her carefully manicured nails into Delphine's shoulder and gently forces her down onto her knees. It's a satisfactory position, Rachel thinks.
Rachel avoids looking directly into her eyes, but she can see that Delphine's eyes are rimmed red; not from tears, oh no, but from the lack of sleep. Rachel would know. She's been here for three days now, but it only feels like half that time.
Rachel knows what it's like to lose a lover, but at that point, that man had become unimportant. With her thoughts distracting her, she reaches for the rope on the counter; it's prickly, but sturdy enough for it's purpose.
Her eyes downcast, Delphine dutifully holds her hands out.
After this, your sorrows will be temporarily gone, Rachel thinks as she begins to tie the rope.
