"Miss Swan, sit," Mary-Margaret said from behind her desk. She didn't look up from her paperwork.
Emma looked around the empty classroom and sat in the middle of the second row. Emma was wearing a short plaid skirt, a white blouse, knee-high white socks and flat black shoes. Her tie was red and white striped. Her hair was in two pigtails. She felt awkward and a bit ridiculous in the get-up.
Mary-Margaret acted like Emma wasn't worth noticing. Emma sat quietly with her arms folded and resting on the desk in front of her.
After ten minutes Mary-Margaret looked at her. "Did you bring any homework to do?"
Emma shook her head. She hadn't realised she was supposed to bring anything, Mary-Margaret hadn't mentioned it. Emma shifted uncomfortably.
"Did you think you were going to spend the hour in detention being lazy?" the teacher was giving her a stern look that surely would have made a child cry. She had no idea what to say. "Well?"
"I uh...what would you like me to do?"
Mary-Margaret rolled her eyes. "If you haven't brought anything to do I suppose I will have to administer some kind of punishment." She tapped her lips thoughtfully with her finger. "Something you'll never forget and remind you not to be a bad girl."
Emma stayed silent under the icy glare.
"Well," Mary-Margaret took a ruler from her desk drawer and set it down in front of her, "come here and get your punishment."
Emma gulped.
