Siobhan had seen Rachel before she met her. It was in a bar, and she'd been surprised that she was drinking in public, around other people. She'd seen the file of her, but what she saw did not match up.
She had watched her from a corner of the bar where the lights did not reach, the girl's second cocktail glass emptied, did not replace the faraway look in Rachel's eyes.
To Siobhan, it did not appear as if she were reminiscing. Perhaps that is why she was drinking out today. Her memories no longer offered her any solace and was too afraid to be alone with them tonight.
Rachel's eye seemed to fixated at no one and nothing at all. As if she were seeing something beyond the walls, searching for something to take her away, or bring her closer.
At that moment, she no longer looked like a woman, but a lost, little girl, with no hope of ever finding what she sought.
