Kaylee is so terrific in this, so terrifically herself, and I'm in love with her guilt and her determination and her bravery. All through her voice is fantastic and true, although early on there was this line that made me think, oh yes, there's Kaylee, I've missed her since the show's been gone:
But the shuttle only lived with Serenity. It wasn't a part of it, and it didn't listen to her like the bigger ship did.
And she and Inara stranded together are just perfect together, how they fit together so well and of course, at the end, with such amazing hotness. I think my favorite line of the whole story was this:
When she kissed Kaylee, her hair blew around them and tangled up the sky.
And in addition to Kaylee and Inara, there are so many vivid, insightful moments of some of my most favorites. Everything with Wash was just fantastic, I wanted to clap my hands with glee every moment he was in the story. And this line about Zoe:
So many curves and nearly as many scarsand this about River

Wow, this is fabulous! I absolutely loved... well, all of it! The sweetness and longing, the beauty of their acceptance of each other. It was simply stunning.
Okay, more coherent feedback time, because this is one of my favorite pairings ever and probably my favorite story for it:
The opening is great: perfect place to drop into the (emotional) action and plot.
After all, everyone knew what Methymna's outer atmo was like. "Like breathing on Methymna" was a byword on almost every world for bad weather and choking fog. One of the earliest experiments in terraforming, Methymna was the rare enclosed moon, dirt dumped into its roiling seas to form continents and a web of chemicals woven around its stratosphere to repel the virathene winds and keep them out of breathing range.
Wonderful worldbuilding detail.
Kaylee's perfect: her relationship with Serenity, her easy love, her not understanding why she wouldn't make a good Companion.
The paragraph about them sleeping is great: all in character in just a few words.
"Avert those straying eyes, mei mei," Wash whispered as they closed the door. "You got your own woman to look to."
Oh, Wash. <3
River would surely pad into the afterlife as

Oh, it's Kaylee! This is so, so wonderful. I love her confusion about admiration and her determination and wow, lots of other lovely "ations".
"Nah," Kaylee said. What she felt for Inara was, maybe, something like Wash's slackjawed admiration for his wife, but that was just to be expected, wasn't it? Inara was as stately and impressive as Zoe, just in a completely *different* way, and Kaylee admired them both. "Nothing like that."
