I am not naturally as stylistic as I see a lot of people write River, but I tried to convey her oddities in other ways (says she, hoping the similes aren't too forced).

This is a perfect portrayal of post-movie River. She's still very strange and confused and scattered, but not really crazy anymore. She's so much more in tune with herself and with others than she was at the beginning of the series. She sure has grown up, and you've done a wonderful job of showing that.

The girl's hard not to love.

I feel that I may have failed in intent, since I sort of vaguely intended the first two sections to be pre-movie, but I suppose since I wasn't specific I can just pretend I intended it all to be post-movie (pre-movie River's head is probably too crazy for me).

I can understand being scared of writing River, but you've done it wonderfully! She has needs and desires that people don't always see because of her distance, but you portray them beautifully. I love your descriptions too - protein ice cream like stale dreams, ribbons in hair, prickly pear cacti. Gorgeous.

Loved this. River's characterisation was spot on - the way she talked, the way she thought. Scattered, but internally logical.
