She’s not supposed to be there and she knows and she doesn’t care because Serenity speaks a language as large as she is. )

I... this... you... wow. Brain explodes with goodness. This is just so good, the language, the characterization, everything... I love it.

she thinks how she likes that Kaylee takes the world at face value

Oh, and thank you so much for your incredibly generous comments! Now I know that River and Kaylee are hard, really hard, but I think I love them anyway.

Oh, I really loved the lyrical quality of your writing - it's especially well suited to writing river. And I also really like how they connected over Serenity.

Thanks! Yeah, River sort of wrote herself it seems. Funny how that happens. ;)

Thanks, Heather. I really appreciate such thoughtful feedback! This started out as a Kaylee/Inara story (at least that was what it was supposed to be in my head, if you can believe it), but then I realized that I was unwittingly writing in this a free-flowing prose style that seemed much more River-appropriate and once I got the idea of River/Kaylee out of my head I couldn't make it go away. And yes, the story was meant to be more shippy than it is, but I have difficulty creating sexual or romantic attraction/chemistry where I just can't see it in canon. But what I do see between River and Kaylee on the show is a kind of affinity that perhaps even they don't quite see or understand. So I went with it. Now that I've broached the realm of Firefly, I really would like to write more. And you make an excellent point about POV--since Kaylee is my favorite, I'd love to write something from her perspective. For some reason, though, that seems very daunting right now; I don't know what I'd do with all that clarity of thought!
