First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY
digthewriter!!! I hope you had a marvelous day! *huge hugs*
Secondly, I haven't had a chance to do the Snowflake Challenge today since I came home after work and fell asleep for the whole evening. :( I only slept maybe three hours last night, though, and most of that was tossing and turning, so I'm refusing to let myself feel guilty for abandoning the list of things I meant to do in favor of falling into my warm, comfy bed (which I intend to return to very shortly.)
So my post tonight is just a claiming of the fic that
noeon and I wrote for
hd_erised! Originally I was meant to write it by myself, but with everything that happened this fall, I got really overwhelmed. It's hard, I discovered, to write when you're doped up on high-level opiates post-surgery. D: The Erised mods graciously let my wife drop her assignment to join in on mine, for which I am eternally grateful--both to them and to her. They are all wonderful, generous, understanding people. <3 <3 <3
The prompt that
firethesound gave us was basically "EXPLOSIONS!!!!" which we then took and ran with, much to our joy and perpetual amusement. Sometimes we would even go back into a scene and write MOAR EXPLOSIONS in just for fun. :D This was such a great fic to write, especially with Noe, and I am so delighted that we got to write for
firethesound. By the time we turned the fic in, I'd fallen so much in love with writing Harry/Draco again. It was such a joy, and I really, really, REALLY love the way this story turned out. It's the shortest thing I've written for Erised in years, but I'm proud of what we wrote, particularly given the real life circumstances we were dealing with, and I think this story's going to be one of my favourites that Noe and I have collaborated on.
Title: Boom Clap (The Sound of My Heart)
Author:
femmequixotic and
noeonPairing(s): Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter; Hermione Granger/Ron Weasley; background Blaise Zabini/Cho Chang
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~39,600
Warnings: war trauma; nightmares; memories of canon minor character death; minor accidental harm
Content/Enticements: Explosions; drinking; explosions while drinking; Hogwarts is home; ridiculous levels of UST; unhelpful friends; naughty versions of childhood games; abuse of power by teaching fellows; frightful pranks; the portrait of Severus Snape is salty; more explosions; the Room of Requirement has needs too; it’s hard to be gay when you’re a Slytherin; parental f***ery; the usual blah blah; it gets better; be yourself; but don’t get naked in the castle; and don’t set yourself on fire; demon dungbombs should be outlawed; Minerva McGonagall in her war tartan; Potter likes bubbles; Draco likes jumpers; Blaise DNGAF about tender feelings
Summary: Post-war Hogwarts has been energized by its new teaching fellows program. Where once bitter enmity divided the wizarding community, Malfoy and Potter chummily patrol hallways together whilst Granger and Zabini seek lost parts of the castle at McGonagall’s behest and Chang supervises Quidditch when not lecturing in Charms. It’s a veritable wizarding utopia and life is predictable for the first time in years. Which is, of course, when everything blows apart as the result of a drunken dare and Malfoy’s life is ruined beyond his capacity to repair it. Ever. In a million years.
Author's Notes:
firethesound, we took you at your word on the explosions and produced as many as we could within reason, perhaps more than reason would dictate. Your prompts were wonderful fun to realise, and we hope you enjoy the result! Many thanks to B for the moral encouragement, to the hd-erised mods for their kind forbearance, and to the Drarry community at large. You are all brilliant, and any mistakes are our own. Title is from the Charlie XCX song.
