Ascendio poll & programming

Feb 09, 2012 18:31

Okay, so in order to help plan some Ascendio programming options, I have a poll! If you're going to Ascendio or planning to go or thinking about going--please, please, please let me know. :) Also if anyone who's going would like to do a slash or femmeslash panel/workshop, drop me a comment or PM on LJ or DW and let's talk--especially if you're ( Read more... )

If I come, I would love to do a slash group. I am interested in talking about pregnancy, nursing, and parenting in fic, with an MPreg focus, including how to write more accurate birth and parenting fic for those who don't have kids of their own. I would also be interested in a panel about how to balance fannish life (and espeically slashy, NC17 fannish life) with RL as a parent. I would be willing to be on someone else's panel on trauma or addiction recovery in fic, as a pyschotherapist. Let me know if any of these, or anything else, sounds good.

Speaking as a mom, I would completely fangirl you for doing either or both of these!

I actually have already submitted a proposal for me and my son about introducing kids to Harry Potter, and am interested in finding others to sit on the panel with me, so lmk if you're interested?

yes! I have a six year old with whom I read SS, watch the first two movies, and teach spells to, so we can play-duel. I also have a three year old who told me, in no uncertain terms, when I came upon him riding the kitchen broom, that he was "not harry potter, mama, I'm draco malfoy!" He was a super cute draco for halloween this past year.

I would so be all over attending a femmeslashy panel or workshop if I go. I want to try my hand at femmeslash art but I am troubled by the influence of the male gaze on my art.

So I recently got into a debate with a non-fandomer who objected when I called The Beekeeper's Apprentice 'fanfiction.' It's not particularly about slash but I do want to see discussion about the ways in which transformative works have been mainstreamed.

On the slashy note, I also want more panels about the mainstreaming of slash in a broader fanfic context, and how in a post-Dumbledore-is-teh-gay world, it doesn't seem like slash pairings are as big a deal anymore. I would also love to see something about the emergence (and reemergence) of same-sex couples in genre fiction and especially YA fiction (not necessarily fanfiction, but all fiction).
