bubbleSummary: Renji has to do Rukia a favor - much to his chagrin - and does his best to wheedle his way out of it. Fluff peice with no real point. It's just to get my creative juices flowing again. This is unbeta'ed, so please forgive any spelling grammar errors.
“Rukia! You can’t do this to me! This is cruel and unusual punishment!”
But she didn't budge an inch, and just kept on marching him to Ichigo and Orihime's place.
Seeing that appealing to her sense of justice wasn’t working, he changed tactics.
“I don’t know why you’re being like this. You wouldn’t ask this of me if you really loved me…” Renji had been whining for the last half hour, trying to get out of his fraternal duties.
“Whine, whine, whine. All you do is complain.” Rukia said as she pulled him up the stairs to the apartment. He wasn’t resisting too much, but he was using just enough pressure on her hand to let her know that he really didn’t want to be here today.
“That’s all I’m going to do today since you volunteered me for this,” he muttered under his breath.
The two of them were finally in front of the door of their friends’ apartment, and Rukia turned to face him; carefully smoothing out his shirt and tucking the few fly away strands of hair back in their place.
“Now Renji,” she said as looped her arms around his neck and brought her face within inches of his. “Remember what we talked about. You do this for me,” she kissed him lightly on the corner of his mouth. “And later, I’ll do something for you.”
He seemed to mull this over. “Anything?”
“Anything you want,” she said, still nibbling on the corner of his mouth.
“Oh yes you will,” he growled, and faster than she could think, he picked her up and pinned her against the wall.
His lips fed on hers, and she let out a small gasp.
Renji used her momentary break in concentration to his advantage and dipped his tongue into her mouth, lightly running it along the inside of her upper lip. Her secret spot, and she rewarded him with a shudder.
Her hands were making a mess of his hair that she just finished fixing, and she could feel him smile his Cheshire grin as he kissed her.
But their little interlude was cut short as the door opened, and Orihime popped her head out.
“Hi guys! Just give me a WHOA!” She said when she saw the two of them, and quickly held her hand up to her eyes to block them from view. “Sorry. I heard the doorbell and just…” the end of her sentence dropped off, and the two of them could feel her embarrassment.
They both looked down, and sure enough, Rukia’s rump was resting on the doorbell. They shared a smile, and with a heavy sigh, Renji reluctantly let Rukia slide down his body, and back onto the ground.
“It’s okay, you can look now. Renji has his paws off of me.”
The orange-headed girl cautiously looked through a crack between her fingers - just to be sure - before she finally lowered her hand, and gave them both a dazzling smile.
“It’s okay,” she said ushering them inside. “I’m just happy that the two of you finally got together. I was beginning to worry that it would take another 50 years.”
“Yeah,” Renji muttered. “So was I.”
Rukia lightly smacked his arm, and turned back to their host. “Are you ready, Orihime?”
“Yes ma’am! Just let me get my coat.”
Renji stared at the bubbling girl as she bounced out of the room, and then turned back to Rukia.
“Do I really have to do this?”
“Yep,” she said with a smile. “With Ichigo at work, Orihime’s been stuck in the house all week, and I promised her a break. And you know that if we ever need anything then…”
“Yeah, yeah. Just don’t take all day okay?”
Still grinning, Rukia stood up on her tiptoes and placed a kiss on his chin. “I promise.”
Just then, Orihime came out of the other room, pulling on the sleeves of her jacket.
“Okay,” she said to Renji. “They were both asleep when I went in there to say goodbye, so you shouldn’t have any trouble with them. Just be sure not to give them too much sugar, don’t let them sit too close to the TV, they’re not allowed to jump on the furniture, and I don’t care what Ichigo says, no eating in the living room!”
“I got it Orihime. I’ve watched the little hell - I mean darlings before,” Renji told her as he rubbed his ribs.
“Alright. Well, I have my phone, and you know how to get a hold of Ichigo if there’s an emergency.”
“Everything will be fine,” Rukia said as she pulled her towards the door. Now lets get out of here before Renji changes his mind.”
But the man in question was already sprawled out on the couch, careful to rest his feet in Ichigo’s spot. He didn’t answer them, but lazily waved goodbye with one hand.
Once Rukia and Orihime were out of the building and on their way to a shopping extravaganza, they heard Renji call out “Rukia!”
The two girls looked up to see Renji standing on the balcony, with a copper-headed boy hanging off one arm, and a copper-headed girl pulling on the other.
“Rukia!” he called out again when he saw her. “I’ve changed my mind! Let’s just say we’re square, huh?”
He had to shout to be heard over the chorus of Uncle Renji! Uncle Renji!
The two girls shared a smile before Rukia shouted back up to him.
“Too late, Renji. They’re all yours.”
“But Rukia! Rukia!” he shouted at her retreating figure. “You can’t leave me here with them! It’s a freakin’ zoo in here!”
