You know, excellent smut aside, I knew I'd like that part; I was looking forward to the gen bits here. And I really loved them. You managed to capture the, well not style, your style is your own, but the spirit, or rather the feel of the Harry Potter world. The scene in the RoR was in particularly magical, and that moment is my favorite part of this fic.
I love your Hermione voice. She's a very nervous person, or it would be better to say that she has too many thoughts, and you portrayed that wonderfully.
Having Hermione form a friendship with Lavender is one of the reasons you're awesome. Lavender and Cho are paying for their good taste in men :) in fandom.
Hers has always been a very loving family, but not particularly physically affectionate. In fact, it took her a while to become accustomed to the rampant embraces characteristic of the Weasley clan.
Hmm. Really? I always felt that Hermione is the one that likes to jump at people and hug them. Ron had to rescue Harry from her exuberant hugs quite a few times. It seemed to me that she would have very much like to hug Ron silly as well, but Ron!hugging was too complicated. So I think that her mother wouldn't find it odd that Hermione is all hugsy. Heh. Sorry, I think about these things too much. :) Just a different interpretation, of course.
I just love that you gave use a bit of Granger family love and that was a great plot decision, because it prevented Hermione from changing the past.
Loved the kids here, and older!Ron is just edible.
I had a little teary moment in the scene with Dumbledore, but well I'm a bit of a Dumbledore fangirl, and he sounded so sad but hopeful.
“You’re going to die!” she exclaims, too rattled to edit herself.
“Yes,” Dumbledore says calmly, “And you’re proof that it won’t be all for nought.”
Loved that!
Hermione Granger wakes up one morning in her bed at Hogwarts feeling oddly hopeful in a way she doesn’t quite understand. Fifteen years later she emerges from sleep to hear her husband asking her if she had a pleasant dream.
“Yes, I did,” she says, “though I don’t remember what it was about.”
Excellent! Now the whole thing sits so well with canon. I'm always impressed when somebody manages that.
Oh! Wow, thank you for such excellent, thoughtful FB. It's interesting because much of what you say are things that I *do* think about Hermione, but wasn't necessarily consciously thinking about while I was writing this. Like about her busy mind, etc. And I'm so (relieved) pleased that you liked the RoR bits, because I was nervous about them, especially because they're so necessarily "plot-devicey." Of course, the RoR was a big ol' plot device in the books as well, but.
You make an interesting point about the hugging. I thought about this too in relation to the part about Hermione not having cried in front of her mother in a long time - because she *does* cry in other situations. I almost cut that, in fact, but then left it in for some reason. I think-well, I'm very invested in thinking about how Hermione is *different* from the world in which she first grew up, so I guess for me it was a way to mirror that without going more into the obvious "she's a witch and they aren't" thing. I guess my take on it is that Hermione may be used to treaing other people in a certain way, but that it's different for how she expects people to treat her. I mean, I know lots of people who behave v. differently in their adult lives than what was normal in their families of origin. But I'm thinking that perhaps I'll go back and make that more clear before I post this to communities. So thank you for bringing that up!
(Some of) Fandom's treatment of Lavender and Cho really grates on me. (And also, of Ginny and Fleur, but that's another, longer story.) I personally think that Lavender's story is a very sad one, but one that is quite typical of being well, alive. Sometimes we fall for people who don't fall for us, and it sucks! Plus, I think that Hermione is a very logical, as well as emotional, creature and I think she'd be much more willing to be generous to Lavender...once she had Ron for herself, of course! Because I think that Hermione knew deep down that what Ron was doing wasn't right, and not just to her.

I'm just so glad you're writing HP fics. :)
