More Spike Movie Thoughts

Nov 10, 2005 12:52

This is somewhat of a continuation of my meta-ish post from yesterday only with slightly more paranoia.

OK. So, Spike movie?

Here is where the crux of my fears lie regarding the movie:

Edited to put under a cut because I realized that there are indeed people in the world who have not seen BtVS and AtS and really ought to. *cough* greenapricot *cough*

As stated in aforementioned post, I love serial narrative and I thus love open-ended storylines. This is part of why I'm a big fan of "Chosen." Although there were a lot of other things about S7 that I did NOT like, I really liked how in the finale they simultaneously reaffirmed that BtVS was a feminist show (by having Buffy share that power, that's right) and also found a way to NOT tie up the narrative into a tight little closure knot but rather let the premise explode out into a zmillion possible storylines (not that I've actually read that many fanfics about OC Slayers but whatever). It's "Happily Ever NOT Over." Hee.

I also fall into the camp that kinda digs that NFA left us on a cliffhanger.

And the shippiness (in BtVS anyway) worked out for me to a certain degree. While I thought that on the whole the writers tiptoed around the Spuffy relationship for the majority of S7, it was left in a way where I can extrapolate out my own future!spuffy (or two or three). And the B/A people can do that too, which is something I certainly don't begrudge them. To each their own. Blah blah.

So basically...I like the level of openness that we've got in the Buffyverse right now.

And so I'm terribly ambivalent.

And yes, this is me trying to dig deeper beyond my knee jerk Spuffy reaction.

btvs, serial narrative, spike movie
