Sharon Carter’s story begins normally enough. She was born to wealthy parents in Richmond, Virginia on October 22, 1984. Her aunt,
Peggy Carter, moved to Richmond when Sharon was two and soon became a permanent fixture in the Carter residence. Peggy babysat Sharon while her parents worked; they frittered the days baking cookies, building model planes, and Peggy telling Sharon of the War. Peggy was a British operative that acted as a liaison to U.S. Army, specifically the Strategic Scientific Reserve, during World War II. She’d tell stories, recite battles, and show old war footage; what she liked to talk about the most, however, was Captain America, even if it made her cry.
Inspired by her aunt’s stories about Captain America (and, okay, all those Kung Fu movies), Sharon spent her time until the age of eighteen disciplining herself to become the very best; studying multiple fighting techniques from around the world and sharpening her mind. Shortly before her eighteenth birthday, a mysterious, minor department of the government, SHIELD, contacted her.
Sharon became a field agent of SHIELD, taking the codename, “Agent 13”. The next ten years are filled with minor, top-secret missions. Fortunately or unfortunately for everyone involved, Sharon was undercover as Irma Kruhl, infiltrating THEM (an offshoot of HYDRA) when Captain Steve Rogers was recovered from the ice. She was in the jungles of the Congo when the events of “The Avengers” occurred.
Roughly a month later, while Manhattan was still being cleaned up after the alien invasion, she arrived at a SHIELD base in the upper New York state. She was sent by THEM in order to steal a container of Inferno-42 (a powerful explosive that, with a single cylinder, could destroy Manhattan), but she was sent by SHIELD in order to come to Captain America’s attentions. If she came to his attentions, so she would in THEM. With the way she acted towards Captain America, she certainly came to his attentions (and, yeah, her aunt’s stories about him only had a small part).
After crossing paths with him and various members of the Avengers, she was eventually taken down when a THEM plot to blow up Avengers’ Tower failed. There she revealed her identity as Agent 13, a SHIELD agent, to the onlooking Avengers and Nick Fury, citing a successful mission.
Currently, she has returned to SHIELD and has not revealed her true identity to Steve Rogers.
