My First Halloween in the Bay Area

Hah. Livejournal got into the Halloween spirit just as I did. So, I am in love with this site this morning: http://www.costumeideazone.com/index.htm If you're looking for Halloween ideas, they run the gamut from

Leafblower: wear a baseball cap with a leaf dangling down in front of your face. When someone asks what you are, blow on the leaf.

to

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon: get an appropriate costume, such as Bullwinkle or Snoopy. Attach long strings all around and then attach tiny plastic clowns at the end of each string. Then walk in slow motion humped over with the clowns just dragging the floor.

I live in Oakland and Halloween will be on a Friday. I want to see fun costumes and have a good time without spending more than, say, $20. I'm sure there are ways to do this. Hello, I can see SF from my window. (Or, at least, I could until the fog arrived this weekend.) I drink, but don't have to, and am neither hip nor cool. Large groups of strangers can be overmuch for me. But I have a few friends looking for good Halloween options, so there'll be a critical mass of known entitites. Local folk, where should we go?
