Chapter 5
Chapter 5: - Still I dream she’ll come to me…
The days had passed far too fast over the next few weeks. KaDee had been forced to go to work and Kathy had been forced to return to work unwillingly. That day someone had entered their lives in a way that would run everything they wanted.
KaDee had sensed something was wrong but she had been with a patient and unable to leave. She had gone as soon as she could, shocked to stillness when the patient admitted she knew the woman who had attacked Kathy.
She had left soon after, pushing herself into action, racing to find her, save her. She had to do something, anything. Anything that could save the woman she loved. She loved Kathy with all her heart and she didn’t doubt that she would not be able to go on if Kathy was hurt.
Kathy had awoken in a hospital bed. She had asked instantly for KaDee, asking for her lover… her wife. She wanted her there. She needed her there. She was no longer sure what she needed and what she wanted but she knew she had to have KaDee with her. She knew there was no way she’d have the strength to survive without KaDee.
Isabel had moved on with Jaime, returning home with the older woman. Now she was alone in the car on her way but she had stopped for gas and she was no further than the first ten miles.
KaDee had hunted for the woman for a long time now. She had been happy to find the hospital and had made her way up to the wing just in time to see a trauma team working on the woman, she had cried out then, falling to her knees in the hallway, unable to hide her grief.
Kathy had survived by the smallest miracle and when she woke KaDee was watching over her exactly as she had been for the past few months. Isabel had come and gone, going home once she knew Kathy was safe. The girl had known that Kathy knew KaDee more than she did.
“Kay…”
“Kath?”
KaDee’s word had been soft, surprised and pleased at the same time.
“Kay…”
“Shhh, Kath, I’m here.”
