Chapter 2: - I dreamed it for you.
The weeks had passed slowly. Kathy had turned KaDee down a few times when she tried to get her out of the house. Most times they had wound up eating in, KaDee watching over her as she relaxed. Every time their eyes met Kathy and KaDee had both looked away, too scared to do anything.
Slowly but surely the two had made progress together. KaDee was still regularly counselling Kathy and they were making a way through the pain and anguish Kathy felt. Slowly, almost too slowly, Kathy was coming back out of her shell and beginning to trust again.
Every touch of a hand or meeting of eyes made them all the more sure what they were feeling. Neither of them wanting to approach it. They knew they had to be patient. So very patient. Still they took a little comfort from every time they made contact. Several times they had come close to discussing what it was they were feeling for each other only to back out at the last possible second.
They had become closer as friends slowly. Eventually Kathy had felt ready to face the house again and she had taken it on alone. She had returned to the house in tears that night. Isabel had clearly gone back and taken Kathy’s absence as permission to move in with her friend. Kathy had been broken and disappointed by it and she had taken a long time to calm down.
KaDee had eventually helped her to bed, tucking her in with a tenderness that she rarely let her see. Kathy had slept instantly but she had still struggled to control her trembling. Eventually she had woken up screaming. KaDee had gone to her instantly and calmed her tenderly, cradling her close and rocking her, praying that she would calm without too much of a problem. The two had found the contact calming and when Kathy fell asleep cradled close to KaDee the woman had smiled slightly, lowering her back into the bed and curling around her, watching the sleeping woman protectively.
The next day the two had gone back to working together as Counsellor and Patient. Eventually Kathy had called a stop to it and they had sat in silence, neither sure how to approach the subject of the last night or their feelings. It had been Kathy who broke the silence, shyly.
“Kay?”
“Yeah Kath?”
“I think we need to talk…”
“Well, I’m listening.”
“I…” Kathy had stalled eventually to a stop, then spoken quietly. “I think I’m falling in love… with you.”
“I know I’ve already fallen for you.”
Silence had crept in again and they had sat looking at each other. Neither wanted to be the first to prove what they had said and eventually KaDee had risen, closing the distance between them and pulling Kathy in close, softly kissing her, shy but tender.
