Nobody can say no to a captain’s command.
Katheryn Janeway knew what it was like to have command of a ship but she also knew what it was like to lose a Captain. When she caught news of Jean-Luc Picard’s death she knew what she had to do.
Beverly Crusher was used to being under command but she still missed Jean-Luc and hoped for a captain or placement who might help her move on. When she heard news of Janeway beaming aboard she felt a little unsure but glad. It seemed Janeway’s EMH had broken and she was to be assigned there if Janeway gave permission.
Janeway had relinquished command easily to Riker, taking her assignment to Crusher’s team with grace, finding herself getting attached to the woman within moments.
“I’d be honoured if you’d join my ship…”
