Crying for no-one…
By Elizabeth Fox.
It was an unusual day for the wives of Wisteria Lane. Many had gone to see Edie Britt finally laid to rest, the ashes having been given to her friends, although it seemed Edie was still with them on some level. Several people went to scatter her ashes, the group seemingly friendly at the least. One woman lagged behind, Katherine Mayfair, it was achingly clear she felt a little lost and left out, it had been Bree Hodge who insisted she go along and now Bree dropped back, not noticing the ice in her path, a thud had echoed as she landed and several turned, not seeing Bree wince as she stood back up, it was Katherine who decided to stay with Bree and force her to stop.
“Bree, honey… you’ll make that worse if you try to walk.”
“I have to go…”
“She hated you… so don’t feel bad on her behalf.”
“She wanted us all there… so we have to go.”
“No…”
The two had been arguing solidly for at least a few minutes as the others went on, Bree finally giving in, gracefully, well, almost gracefully.
“Fine.”
A heated argument had kicked up further down the path as two women walkers were working their way up the hill. One had long blonde hair and icy brown eyes, her anger clear as she turned away from her companion for a while, the other, a brunette with cold blue eyes giving in instantly.
Katherine shot Bree an amused look. Bree shrugged as they watched the girls come closer. The blonde, Svetlana stopping to stare at Bree for a while. “Bree?” The disbelief was clear. “Bree Mason?”
“Yeah?” Bree was staring at the woman bemusedly before she smiled. “Svetlana DeCosta… you finally made it to the USA then?”
“Yeah.” Svetlana was still smiling, offering Bree a hand. “I saw you fall, let’s go get some ice on it…”
Bree gave in gracefully and let herself be lead away, leaving the brunette to stare at Katherine, a little timidly.
“Hi?”
“Hi.” Katherine’s smile was bright, faked but nice enough. “I’m Katherine… Katherine Mayfair.”
“Serena…Serena Mai.” The girl shrugged a little. “Guess we’d best go home.”
“Mmm…” Katherine paused, watching the girl, deciding she could stand to be nice, the girl seemed skittish and shy. “Or you could just come get to know me…”
Serena laughed at that. “Sure… your place?”
“Why not.”
Serena shrugged and waited for Katherine to stand up, the two working their way along the path slowly as they traded facts about themselves, Serena proving to be understanding when Katherine refused to share any more secrets.
“Fair enough.”
The way back to Katherine’s in the car brought more questions for Serena, the girl stunning Katherine into silence with her brutal honest about her abusive exes.
“Oh hell Serena… I’m sorry.”
“Don ‘t be, they’re the reason I prefer girls.”
Katherine paused at that then laughed. “Same here actually.”
“Seems we got a match.”
“Yeah.” Katherine was laughing softly as she lead Serena into her home, stunned when the shy girl made the first move, the kiss soft, shy and tentative although it quickly grew steamy.
