The futility of it all - I love it!

Yesterday night, I had an epiphany. Like all epiphanies, it came unexpectedly, brought to me by the clever pickwick (hey, nice to see you!) and the dashing Dickon Edwards (hey, what a suit!). Like all epiphanies, especially Eureka! it has something to do with a particular thought that has been bugging me for a while, a thought, however, that is of no ( Read more... )

Thank you! And you are just the right person to ask this question: is it really wrong to have chosen a dress if I am getting married in August 2008? I am surprised at how much I know what I want!

No, not at all! With loads of bridal retailers/different dresses, the ordering time can be very lengthy, so it's great that you know what you want!

When you say that you've chosen a dress, have you actually tried the dress on? I've heard an awful lot of people say that often what they *thought* they wanted wasn't want they ended up with!

If you want to pick my brains about anything wedding related, I'd be happy to offer any advice that I can... with this to start you off: get your venue booked sharpish - August gets booked up way in advance!

You see? This is the funny thing. the PhD puts you in the habit of being ahead of yourself all the time... The dress I have chosen will be in the shops in January, which is when I will go to the shop and try it out. You are right, it may be complete nonsense once is on. Do you recomend any bridal retailers?

This is a cross country wedding so, even if I have chosen I will have to go shopping and pretend to try things on with mum, gran and the evil aunties (ah, the theatre!)

As for the venue, I have a say field trip prepared when I go to Spainfor Christmas, the outcome of which MUST be a booking. All this conference organising may come in handy, finally!

Oh, if you're arranging things like conferences, you'll find the preparation so much easier!

I can't recommend a specific bridal retailer, unfortunately. When I was looking, I found traditional ivory dresses (they're stocked everywhere, with not much if you're looking for anything else) just weren't me, which is why I had the dress made to my very specific requirements... That's actually something I'd *really* reccommend. It meant that any detailing could be tried out first, before being finalised. I'm so glad that I did it that way.

Another thing that I *would* recommend, is if you try this dress on and you really like it, you should see if it's available from one of the US retailers such as netbride, or RK Bridal, who will beat anyone else's prices. With the strength of the pound against the US dollar, even with possible customs charges, you'd still save a packet.
