On Tuesday, and safety procedures permitting, I am headed for my first proper summer holiday in 4 years. Nothing special. I am going home to Spain, which may sound exotic to many Glaswegians, given the weather here... I am looking forward to parts of it, but some others scare me, as holidays with my family always turn out stressful, very hung over and with a few kilograms of undigested meat in my intestine... We are arriving in time for the magnificent Bilbao fiestas. Magnificent because, every year, the Council pays money to get bands to play for free. As The prodigy dropped out yesterday (they always do, the councils bureaucrats know nothing about dealing with rock stars), they secured Madness for double the price. I have been following all the tribulations online, instead of worrying about international terrorism. Who am I deluding with my pretense sophistication coming from where I come from? Anyway, back to business. I am looking forward to Madness. But, I am more looking to seeing Angel Corella dance Balanchine, Wheeldon and Petipa.

Things like this very seldom happen in Bilbao and I feel I am going to be lucky at least in one of the 3 competitions I have entered to win free tickets. You see? The whole of Bilbao will be admiring fireworks, listening to Latino music or drinking Kalimotxo (cheap wine -not even in a bottle- mixed with Coke, our national drink). I feel a million pounds today.
