Well, I for one am glad to see you posting. I'll try DW again - I just can't get the open id to work for me here because of some computer administration weirdness, but have a brand new computer at home so maybe I just can!

I'm really sorry about the jerks in the SCA. I hope I wasn't one of them although I know I can be a little slow on the uptake. I know you have a busy life and need to choose the things that work for you. I just wish there weren't so many socially dysfunctional peeps in fandom in general, but I think the inclusive nature of most of the groups draws in folk who otherwise can't find a community. I 'quit' the SCA in my mind about every 4 months or so but I've been in so long that I am both institutionalized and some of the my best friends are there. It took a long time to find them. I hope at least you'll still want to talk about the history Dutch culture and cuisine.

BUT, I have to tell you about GF baking. I'm hooked!!! It hasn't done my waistline any favors, so I'm currently avoiding all grains, but I made a lovely succession of GF offerings for Turkey Day. The one I liked best was a pumpkin cheesecake with pecan cookie crust and a pecan praline topping. The neatest thing though was cooking a GF stollen with my Mom, who was wary and unbelieving that it could taste good. It was a fabulous success! She says she can't really distinguish it from the German ones that come from her family as gifts. I've come a long way since my first pumpkin bread brick. Thanks for your advice :)

Never you, dear. :-) You're always unfailing supportive. These are some local yerks. And I've just had enough of it. The one referred to the rest of us (non-Peers) as "Generic SCA people". O.o Fork. Stick. Done.

I'm not enough of a social outcast to NEED to fill things in with other social outcasts. :-) And there are my girls. I've found out how the SCA In General really feels about them. And they're none too happy at events. Still looking for a past time that we can share as a family.

On my "to-do" list for December - GF Speculaas. So I'll make sure I share that here for you, too. I'm also looking for some pie-related advice. Look for that later today or tomorrow.
