Exactly. The only reason anyone would be making things up is if they had an ulterior motive. Although, I'm sorry, but there are side effects to both the Pill and IUD's--but there are side effects to every medication, and ill effects to nearly every surgical procedure. Also, although condoms are a great help in perventing the spread of STD's, even they aren't 100% reliable-not only do they break occasionally, the latex has naturally occuring pores, making it possible (albeit unlikely) for nasty diseases to get through on occasion.
And technically, the idea that contraception encourages infidelity "because no one will ever know" can be backed up with statistical facts. In 1963, when contraception was still taboo, the divorce rate in America was only about 6-8% (I forget which, but it was a VERY low number). Now it's skyrocketed to over half of all marriages. Considering the "dark side" of human nature, I doubt that's entirely coincidental.
Also, I can't help but wonder if the article may be exaggerating just a wee bit. After all, sensationalism is how news articles get read in the first place. ;)
...considering divorce and adultery are not one and the same, I'd have to disagree. Not to mention the huge variety of factors at work during that time period, and that condoms already existed in 1960.
Oh, and the Kinsey reports. Don't forget them. Adultery was suprisingly prevelent, especially with society so deadset against divorce.
