"masculine" colors at work

Oct 07, 2005 12:08

It seems like most times when I want to order supplies at work, the color choices are traditional "masculine" colors. We ordered some ice buckets this week and the colors were red, green, black, and blue. My post-it flags are red, blue, yellow, and green. Lab markers come in black, blue, red, and green.
Now I wouldn't want to write in pink because it would be illegable, but what's wrong with purple markers? Violet is a perfectly valid color choice, so are the companies only making markers in boy colors because they like them? Because people only buy those colors? Or maybe traditional female colors are considered unprofessional for some reason. Maybe suppliers thought about it and decided that women will settle for any color but a bunch of men won't be caught dead holding a pink ice bucket. Thoughts?
