so, i also belong to a vegetarian LJ community and a recent post has frustrated me.
basically, a girl refers to another female as a "cum dumpster for drunk frat guys" for mentioning something about mink and using the animals for fur.
the comments then proceed to become ridiculous. one or two people mention that her choice of insulting the female via degrading her sexuality is upsetting... those who speak up against this girls rant are then criticized for "over reacting" having "no sense of humor" or being an angry "radical feminists"
i was even cursed out by the original poster when i mentioned that homophobia saddened me (the comments began talking about being gay and how referring to a man as gay is insulting to that man). all i said (in response to that comment) is that i cannot wait for the day when calling someone gay is not an insult, and i was cursed out.
what do you all think?
i understand that one should have the freedom to say/think (nearly) anything one would like.... but some thoughts make me so sad. esp. when they drastically insult another (and a movement that has taken hundreds of years to get where we are today...)
do you think i'm being overly-sensitive?
please , discuss.
