In honor of it being independence day in Mexico, I’d like to share the story of Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez (find another link here).  She is one of my favorite women in history, and a true heroine in my book.

Oh yeah, me too. My dad said (when I was younger, early h.s.) "one day I'll take you to see one of the women that helped you get to where you are today" and we went to Hidalgo, we saw lots of places that all had to do with the liberation of Mexico. He has always been very supportive and encouraging as far as making sure I know that women do what they want, including changing the face of history. I never had a reason to believe I was a part of the "weaker sex". He made it very clear that men and women are equal, and that we change the world just as much, if not more, but often times are just poorly documented.
