Or Elizabeth Smart, Lacey Peterson, Lori Hacking, or any number of other missing pretty white women who got insane amounts of media attention and efforts to find them while minorities, the lower class, and non-photogenic women were basically ignored.
When was the last nationally prominent missing person's report a black person? I can't think of it. Typically the attractive blonde white woman gets the press.
I actually live in Philly and until I saw this (briefly) on MSNBC, I had no idea anyone was missing. I read two papers a day, but have been slacking this week. It's definitely not big news in my local suburb paper. They haven't run a thing, but they sure as hell have had AP stuff about Natalee.
While I agree that it is very sad and completely racist that non-white missing people get little or no media attention, I don't like how they're implying that Latoyia being pregnant makes this more urgent than it otherwise would be. Or rather, that since Natalee Holloway isn't pregnant, she shouldn't matter as much.
Because, you know, the real concern is the BABY, not the woman-shaped wrapper.
i think he was saying more like "if the "unborn babeeeees" are so damn important why dont they matter when they arent white". the point isnt that blonde white women dont matter but that women of color do too.
I don't know if this is off topic, but I wonder if Natalee Holloway was a black girl who went down to Aruba would the media care as much? It is sad that I think that way when I see the missing women on television.
