Is it more of a crime for a woman to be ignorant about feminism than it is for a man to be ignorant about feminism?
It’s an interesting attitude I’ve noticed cropping up here.
Does this imply that all women should somehow “know” more about it? That it’s somehow *gasp* inherent in our thinking, or at least it should be?
I understand that women tend to be more “high profile” when it comes to the feminist movement - that is, many people are more inclined to listen to statements made about women if it comes from a woman, and this could be part of the reason why some people think it’s worse when a woman makes an un-feminist statement than when a man makes one. But there seems to be a distinct “she’s unnatural” vibe to this attitude, as well as disbelief (“I can‘t believe a woman would say that!”). Am I wrong? Does anyone else smell essentialism, or am I reading too much into this?
And while I'm on a roll...does this attitude mean that, deep down, men aren't held up to the same standards of women when it comes to "the movement"?
