Oh, I'm so glad someone's reading this and liking it! I'm a sucker for minor characters and so-called villains myself; I always wonder what their take on a story would be.

And I'm very, very, VERY glad that it doesn't come across as didactic. I did worry about that!

Thank you very much. Going off to answer your comment at the second part now!

Here on tetleythesecond's rec.
This is such a brilliant take on the play! By an odd coincidence, I spent the last two weeks in Scotland (hence my belated reading), and I visited Cawdor Castle. While I know perfectly well that it was built centuries later, it still makes a wonderful mental background.

I love the way you blend the play and history; the murder of Gruoch's father. Lulach, the weak-minded son.

for who would know if she fled shrieking save the killers and the dead woman? Such a sharp observation, and so fitting for your Gruoch.

The whole description of Medieval warfare and its consequences for women are wonderfully drawn.

On to the next bit!

I love this so much. Your Gruoch is beautifully written, and all the effects of war that Shakespeare never mentions are wonderfully woven in. Going on to Part Two, and I'll probably write a longer comment then.
