omg. This was perfection. I love, love, love where this prompt took you. That you used it to create the character of Renesme into a grown up, confident woman. Fabulous.

I especially loved this exchange, that taught us so much about her:

but when Claire asks how Jake is, with that gossipy tone that means she expects romance novels and engagement rings, Ren doesn’t know how to respond. Jacob is Jacob, her Jacob, her uncle and brother and friend, who taught her to hunt and once drove her across the country just because she wanted to see it all. He’s gorgeous, and she’s old enough to see that, but she cannot understand how she could ever want him. Even worse, she can see that he wants her, that he wants so much to hold her and kiss her and love her, and that he sees absolutely nothing weird about that. But it is weird, and she doesn’t know how to tell him that she will never love him woman to man.

I just adore the line about how hard it is not to love someone custom built for her, even as she acknowledges frustration that everyone expects that to be the end game, expects her to fit into that little box that she doesn't want anything to do with. And yes, it is weird to expect her to love him.

I love that she went to college and enjoyed it, and knew that she was spoiled.

I love everything about this, including Jo there at the end. Lovely, lovely job!

Aieee, thank you so much; this comment made me super happy! I'm so pleased that you liked the story!

Re: imprinting...I, like a lot of people, have a big issue with it and I wanted to try to let Ren have my opinions about it while still acknowledging the fact that she does have a relationship with Jacob- just not the one everyone expects. So I'm really glad that section worked out.

Thank you so so much for reading!

Yes, exactly. That's exactly what you did. Showed us a Jacob who was still hers, just not the way everyone expected him to be.

I also liked the little details that you had with regard to her relationship with Bella. You hinted that they weren't that close, or rather than they didn't quite fit together right, but were still close. I don't know. It was just subtle and great.

I also really liked that you still made her dangerous, thinking about Jo's blood, and capable of annoyance, as people kept oggling her family. I guess that's what you showed best about her relationship with her parents, that it was strange for her to be seven and seventeen, adn she didn't know where she fit except that she didn't want the name they gave her, wanted to be someone unique and not just the product of her grandparents. She liked the life she had, playing never ending duets and visiting her grandparents and going to college and studying her own past, but it was hard to reconcile that with her parents, who were so caught up in each other, and such a single unit, going off on honeymoons and being so strangely into one another.

Yeah, I just think this piece will stay with me a while.
