Seriously, Image Consulting should take over the world!!! And I'm not just saying that because I'm an Image Consultant...lol.
Today in class we went over how certain colors, line movements, textures, etc. can convey a message about you without you ever opening your mouth! Some of it is obvious, like how in our culture, we see black as authoritative and sophisticated while pink is seen as soft and feminine, but a great deal is not so obvious and it's important to know this stuff in your everyday life from work & career to dating.
We did each other's colors and then we did an exercise where we had to write three things that describe our personalities, three things you want people to perceive you as, and then we had our partners (who didn't know us) mention three things that they thought of us.
I said I would describe myself as "classy, humorous, and outgoing" and that I wanted people to see me as "classy, polished, and knowledgeable". My partner said her first impression of me was that I was "creative, approachable, and trustworthy". I definitely agree with her because I find that clients who meet me for the first time tend to trust everything I say. I even get people to give me all their personal information to open bank accounts while I'm walking the streets! But what I didn't get was that women definitely find me to be approachable (strange women are always asking me where stuff is) but men on the other hand don't approach me as much. Well, it's because of the way I dress! You gotta love Image Consulting!
