[He seems to be a bit confused.]
So.. people from your time don't celebrate their birthday at new year?

Any way.
[He smiles.]
Happy Birthday!

New Year? Oh. No. We celebrate on the day we were born- birthday.

Interesting how things change.

[He chuckles.]
Well, to celebrate one's birthday on the day one was born also sounds more comprehensibly than how it's handled in my days.

It would seem to make more sense to me. I thought, ya know, 'birthday' should be celebrated on your day of birth.

I'm Asuna by the way. What's your name?

My name is Seta Soujiro.

Hm.. How do you celebrate birthday in your days, Asuna-san?

Um, mainly by having a party, exchanging gifts, being given a birthday cake- mainly just hanging out with friends and family and celebrating that you've made it another year. How do you celebrate them?

Well.. I haven't celebrated new year that often but.. At this time, most people visit a temple to pray for a good year. Hm, sometimes big shops and rich people gave others some mochi and mandarins for disseminating luck.
That's what I know about it.. but, as I said, I haven't really celebrated it.

Uh.. The people I lived with weren't really religious and there were other things we had to do these days.

Well, I've never considered birthdays religious. I don't think anyone in my time does for that matter.

On my time, nearly every special thing has something to do with religion.
But since I'm Rurouni I'm often alone at those festive periods and don't notice them.
