Gimmick?

Someone (Veronica) called from Global Trend (a marketing company) to inform me that because I took
part in a phonecall survey few days ago, I've been choosen (together with 29 others), to receive a
free gift package. The package includes 5 star accomodation in Thailand, spa package, cruise
package etc.

The lady told me I have to go down personally to Rolex Building, #18-02, to collect the gift
package. She convinced me that I won't have to buy anything or sign up anything, though there
will be someone to talk to me about a new travel agency in Singapore. She said this talk is just to
create more public awareness. She asked if I heard about NATAS and when I said yes, she didn't
carry on to say how NATAS is involved. Weird. Anyway, she told me if I'm able to go down to collect
and I said yes, and then she passed the phone to her supervisor, a guy, whose name I forgot. That
fella said once I have confirmed that I will be going, he will fax my name over to don't-know-where to inform
them to reserve that gift package under my name. He told me once I've confirmed, I must go
because if I do not, it will be hard for him to explain to his client (the travel agency).
Anyway, I told him I will be there but of course, I am lying.

Two hours before the scheduled collection date, another lady (Sharon) from the marketing company called
to remind me of the appointment. She said the appointment will last for an hour, which basically
seeks to inform me about the new travel agency, and to explain to me how to use the gift packages
and how to go about making bookings. Then she asked if i will be bringing anyone, which felt fishy to me.
I said no and I could really feel a slight pint of relief over her voice. And then she said if I am unable
to find the building, I should call the company to ask for directions. To cut the conversation short, I just
gave her a false impression that I will be there and after she hung up, I diverted my handphone to a dead number.

I felt there are just too many suspicious loopholes. At the end of the phonecalls, I don't even know the name of the
travel agency.
