Ronon would never have said it to Heightmeyer or the woman who eventually replaced her who he had also been obliged to talk to on occasion (for a given value of talk). But every time he ran, every time he shifted his posture, picked up the pace and moved at speed, he could feel the Wraith at his back whether they were there or not. Running through ( Read more... )

It had taken Brendan an embarrassingly long time to acknowledge, and then accept, the fact that Ronon had disappeared. Nearly two months to be exact. He had heard, of course, about how people on the island disappeared all the time - all of a sudden and without warning. And it wasn't like they just vanished, either, but their things, their personal belongings, all went with them.

It had hit like a punch to the gut when Brendan finally took as truth what everyone else had long since known: Ronon was gone. Just gone.

What had followed had been a long period of sulking and hibernating in his hut, face down in his bed, feeling like some kind of lovesick teenager. But Brendan couldn't help it. Ronon had been his friend. His best friend even! In both worlds! And now he was just an empty bed on the other side of their shared hut, and ... well, Little Ronon. There was always Little Ronon ( ... )

Ronon had come back across the dead wraith and carried on running, it did not seem like Jennifer would be in danger - the girl who had given him the information had been more afraid of him than anything. But he hurried anyway, it kept him warm in this weather. He hadn't expected to come across a familiar face. Another familiar face and as he drew to a halt he realised - or at least he suspected that it was another not actually familiar face.

He looked like Sheppard - more like Sheppard than Kaylee had resembled Jennifer but he held himself all wrong and Ronon didn't think he'd ever seen Sheppard looked so pleased. But on the other hand he clearly knew Ronon. "You're not Sheppard," he said - he didn't holster his gun which he hadn't put away since arriving but he didn't aim at the man either, if he was a threat - even if he was as fast as Sheppard, Ronon was faster.

Brendan came to a stop in front of him and beamed, resisting the urge to well ... hug him or do something as equally unmanly and/or macho. But - it was Ronon! He had come back! "Um ... no? Not Sheppard," Brendan said, shifting slightly on his legs, not seeming to care that Ronon hadn't put away his gun.

Ronon was kind of gun-y in general anyway. "I didn't think I'd see you again," Brendan said. "I was really depressed. Er, I mean, you know - in a non-pining way." Just in case Ronon was worried.

Well, maybe there'd been a little pining. But it'd definitely been a non-sexual pining.

Ronon let him talk, it was the easiest way to get information. This guy talked way more than Sheppard.

"Again?" he said after the man was done. "I don't know you."

He'd been here a day and met exactly one person - he'd be irritated by the thought of his own replica except the Sheppard look a like had known his name.

Brendan supposed it shouldn't have been as much of a shock as it was. After all, Dr. McKay hadn't remembered anyone or anything after he'd come to the island his second time either. It still stung though, and Brendan felt his shoulders and expression drop.

"You don't remember me?" And oh man, Brendan really hoped he didn't cry or anything in front of Ronon, because what a terrible second first impression to make. Not that Brendan thought there was anything wrong with crying in moments of horrible forgetting-your-friend-and-probably-thinking-he's-your-commanding-officer's-inferior-clone-ness, but still ... there were certain unsaid macho rules to abide by here.

Brendan sniffed. "Oh."

"No," said Ronon, levelly ignoreing the emotional reaction if at very least because it was weird to see it coming from Sheppard. Or a reasonable simulacrum anyway. "How did I know you - I arrived less than an hour ago."

Even on a weird island that wasn't enough time to meet people and forget them - unless there was something else going on - he hadn't seen anything that looked ancient and normally it would be Sheppard or McKay who set it off if there was. Ronon didn't have the gene.

"We met on the island. Er, this island," Brendan said. "We used to live together, you helped me train and stuff." He rubbed the back of his head a little, thinking back. "We were friends."

Then he brightened again, straightening. Because hey, nothing said they couldn't be friends again. "Well! Um, I'll be happy to take you over to New Atlantis, if you'd like, although you seem to be going in that direction anyway. Colonel Sheppard is there, although he's kind of a major here. And Dr. McKay, Teyla, Ms. Weir, and Dr. Keller. In fact, I think you'll find just about everyone here."

"I've never been here before," said Ronon, thinking at once of replicators and Michael clones and that other version of McKay.

"Met a girl, looked like Keller - told me that already," said Ronon - but he waved the man on ahead anyway. Let him lead the way - that way Ronon could keep an eye on him. Because if he was a replicator - he'd slipped up. Weir was dead. "So," he said, "what do I call you." He flicked the gun back to kill - just in case he was a threat - it seemed a long winded plan of attack though - why not just pretend to be Sheppard.

"Yes you were, you just don't remember," Brendan insisted, sighing as he lead the way. He knew Ronon well enough to know that Ronon was probably ... plotting things. At least he knew Ronon wouldn't shoot him in the back. "And I know what you're thinking, but time is different here. It pulls people in from all different times, places, dimensions. And don't try and tell me that's crazy 'cause I know where you come from and it really isn't that crazy."

He turned around, walking backwards. He smiled. "And I'm Brendan Dean. It's nice to meet you. Again."

Ronon shrugged, he wasn't going to argue but he hadn't been here and he didn't forget. "It's all one dimension," he countered. "Mostly." There was the odd occasion and though it seemed unlikely - it would not be the first time they had encountered other versions of themselves who weren't replicators. There had been the dead ones aboard the ship for one. So he paused "Dr. Weir is not dead?"

This was the sort of news that for a moment could convince Ronon to forget even the oddness of Brendan looking just like Sheppard. For a moment. So Brendan got a nod instead of a glare. "Yeah well, you know all about me." Or so he said. Ronon would see.

"Yeah, wait 'till you meet Han Solo," Brendan muttered under his breath. He took a blind step over a rock to avoid tripping on it. "And no, not here she isn't. She seems like a very nice lady."

"And I wouldn't say I know all about you, but it's pretty safe to say at this point I know more than you know about me." Brendan furrowed his brow. "Do you come after the whole thing with the 'Replicators'? You know, imploding their homeworld and such?"

Ronon hurried his pace at that, Elizabeth had sacrificed herself to save the city - but she was here. That at least was worth seeing.

"Yeah," said Ronon not elaborating, because thinking of Elizabeth and the replicators together only riled him. "You're from Earth right?" He directed the attention back to Brendan - let him talk about himself.
