Try to leave a light on when I’m gone..Something I rely on to get home..One I can feel at night..

The new single debuted today. Sorta. It was released for airwaves and AOL Music, etc.  It will drop on iTunes next Tuesday, 9/30...on my one-month anniversary of marriage.  (:  I'm stoked obviously.

David is a cheeky little fella and leaked the lyrics before the song even dropped, which was to my delight.  Partially deaf in one ear and over halfway deaf in the other, I rely heavily on the lyrical side of music.  Plus, as a writer, this side of music is a huge deal to me.

When the single was released through the internet, of course, my husband was wishing for HIS computer to be up here at the hospital so we could rip the song for the Chi9++.  Well, this did not happen seeing as I was wishing for a zen like ideal setting to listen to the song as soon as it was dropped;  his god damn speakers went out again!  I spent almost an hour I think flipping the fuck out and not being able to listen to the song.

Side note:  my hubby has an old Mac laptop. A black g3.  Luff the thing because it's iconic.  He's messed with it being a computer geek and upgraded as much as he can and needs for work, but he's a little behind and *cough*needstoupgrade*cough*

Finally, I pull out my tool kit, fiddle with it, and fix the speakers!  (there's always this one damn wire that has a short in it...think I fixed it for good this time).

My review of the song:

Lyrically, obviously, I love it. Otherwise, I wouldn't even be posting a blog about it, let alone one with the subject with a snippet of said lyrics.  The bridge is my favorite part due to personal reasons.  It touches my soul.  (:  Like I always mention.  Music touches souls.

An excerpt from the song is as follows (and my favorite part---the bridge):

Sometimes it feels like we’ve run out of luck
When the signal keeps on breaking up
When the wires cross in my brain
You’ll start my heart again
When I come along

It's haunting to hear those words come from Cook's mouth because as always, his songs get underneath my skin and bring back a personal experience that is so very meaningful to my life.  How he does it?  I'm not exactly sure, except I know he is brilliant for it.

Nitty gritty of the deal.  Melodically, I'm not entirely confident on it, however, I do see the reasoning behind a power ballad.  The coronary song that AI always makes the winner sing has ALWAYS been a ballad-y type song, so this new song "Light On" encompasses the rock edginess that is David, while still slowly transitioning the other entities in today's public into seeing the "real" David music, also known among fans as the true Dave, aka grunge!Dave, probably much to his chagrin.

The vocals are slightly overprocessed for my taste.  I'm have a very eclectic taste in music that runs from George Strait to Marilyn Manson.  Most, however, falls into that gritty, grunge alternative rock genre.

Chris Cornell did a wonderful job alongside Brian Howes in the writing of the song.  As did Rob Cavallo in the production.

Overall, I can rest assure this will be a hit for David.  It already has graced my iTunes, iPod nano, and multiple plays have happened...drum roll please...wait for it..........

a Country themed bar.  Yes, I begged and pleaded here at work tonight to play it no more than 5 times throughout the night.  It got 9.  Fuck yes.  I'm awesome like that.  No really, it's just a catchy, upbeat, kick ass power rock ballad.  Just how I imagined one from David would be.

Here's to November 18th y'all.

faulty speakers, reviews, light on, starting hearts
