Barcelona

So Barcelona... It was great. Seven miscreants (jon_nyara, altered_state, tokensmile, denari, lydb, talisair and myself), one apartment, four days, several cafes, three restaurants, two clubs, two cathedrals, one wierd park, one bottle of rum, a number of bottles of cava, countless beers, too many euros, not much sleep, and much fun.

Amazing Architecture

The Sagrada Familia is just as fantastic on second viewing, and it was great to go there with others who'd not seen it. There was quite a bit of Gaudi that I'd missed last time, though, and this time we went to Park Guell, which is filled with little bits and pieces of Gaudi, and is pretty much the nicest and certainly the most surreal park I've ever visited. We also saw an apartment block Gaudi designed, which doesn't sound thrilling, but boy woulod anyone want to live there. The old cathedral also rocks, although probably only on kinda the same scale as Canterbury or Wells. It was kind of a religious food hall, having lots and lots of separate little chapels that you could go and pray to.

Sleep Monkeys Bludgeoned by Alcohol Monkeys

Alcohol is very cheap in Spain. Obviously, had it not been for this, we would have stayed sober ;o) But yeah, there was a lot of drinking, and staying up late, and general badness. The sleepmonkeys were slightly assuaged by random siestas, but everyone was whacked by the end. The big club night was a place called the Razz which is actually dour clubs in one (no, actually four clubs, not four rooms...), and played pretty good music, and served radioactive juice which was nice.

Barcelona is Great!

I want to live there. Really. I'm starting to learn Spanish. It just has such a great culture; the way it's so easy to get nice, cheap food. The way people have small glasses of beer (generally, and start their evenings later. The great contrast between old and new all over the city. The great views that can be had from building tops and cable cars (well, in theory...). The beach (well, the beach would be great in summer). The weather. The nightlife. The way everywhere has a balcony. The little warrens of streets and alleys with all kinds of cool shops stalls, etc. The food market, which was the most amazing riot of colour and smell... When I live in Barcelona, I'm going to have cool dinner parties with mad food whipped up from the extraordinary range of really fresh, really nice fresh food you can get really cheaply.
