Midnight

It was the night before Kirenestus's banquet, and already his estate was a flurry of activity. Small runestones dotted the grounds. Their glowing runes cast blue light on the plants that the Tauren tended. Due to the corruption in the soil, the effect of ( Read more... )

Thistle and Tarin outside... thistle_chaser December 27 2012, 03:53:19 UTC
Thistle hesitates at Tarin's question. A nod in reply, a lie, then he tilts his head towards the door. "Let's go," pause, "to the house." He doesn't move that way yet though, looking her over with a more critical eye. He frowns. "Are you cold?" Shifting Holly and the now-moist jerky to one hand, he pulls out a pair of gloves and offers them to her. No matter if she takes them or not, out the stable door they'll go, into the winter night.

Thistle leads them not to the house, but off to one side. They're still within the light of it, but not somewhere they can be easily overheard by a guest. If there's security about, they might be overheard by them, but Thistle isn't on the lookout for them.

"Be careful of her," he warns. "The forsaken women. She's dangerous. She gave me a poison turnip." Pause. "Kirenestus said he wouldn't let her poison anything tonight. But be careful. Okay? If you see her somewhere else."

Tarin followed along after him, politely turning down the offer of the gloves. "I'm fine. But thank you though." She smiled as reassuringly as she could.

She listened closely as he explained himself, nodding. "I see.. I'll keep an eye out. She did seem a bit.. mm.. odd. But she's also a Forsaken. They're all a bit strange as a people.." She paused as well, picking at the beads of her bracelet with one hand idly. "... So a poison turnip? That's mean. Why would someone do that?"

Thistle can't put the gloves on himself, not with Holly, so he tucks them back away instead.

"Yes. She's odd. And mean. She teased our goat. Snowy was scared. She wouldn't leave her alone." Then he takes a deep breath in. "Kirenestus said he wouldn't let her poison anything, so tonight will be okay. But be careful if you see her another time."

He shakes his head no to her turnip question. "I don't know. When I wouldn't take it, she hid it in Snowy's pack. I don't know why. Maybe her brain rotted."

"I definitely won't eat anything she gives me, that's for sure. Poor goat." She frowned, picking at the bracelet a bit longer until she realized what she was doing and very deliberately stopped. "Thank you for letting me know. It's nice for you to look out for me." She offered him another small smile.

"Do you have anywhere to keep Holly? You'll probably want to have your hands free at some point.."

Thistle gives her a long look, unsmiling, serious. "I'll always look out for you," he tells her. "You're my friend." He looks around them, at the shadows and the colorfully lit house, to the stables where their mounts are, then back to her. Penny sits down, one paw on Thistle's boot.

At mention of Holly, Thistle looks down at the kitten, his ears giving a twitch. "No. I thought she could run around on the floor. Once we get inside." He doesn't sound too certain of that though. "I don't know if that would be okay. I didn't want to leave her at home."

Tarin seemed genuinely touched at his words, blushing slightly and lowering her eyes. Her fingers moved like she wanted to nervously fidget again, but she clasped them together and resisted the urge. "I'm very glad that you're my friend then.."

She was glad when the topic shifted back to the kitten, as she relaxed noticeably. "I think that would probably be fine. He might even have a place where it would be safe to let her run around and play without her getting underfoot. Someone ought to make you a little carrier for her."

"And I'm glad you're mine," his words are earnest. And, now that the more sensitive part of the conversation is over... "Do you want to go inside?" It's probably nice and warm inside.

Thistle nods as he looks to the house. "It's big. Maybe he has a room I can put her in." Pause, small frown. "One where there's nothing she might break." A nod to the carrier idea, too. "I don't want to leave her at the house while we're out working. She might get into trouble. It would be good to have a way to carry her. Or a pen to keep her in."

"They make little things like that for children, you know? Maybe they can scale one down to hold a growing kitty." She looked on toward the house as well. "We can go inside, sure. I'd bet that Traejan is wondering where we went off to and why.." She cleared her throat awkwardly, realizing that probably sounded odd. It certainly sounded odd saying it out loud.

"And there's dinner inside.. dinner is good.."
