Ugh, sorry I haven't answered all your lovely comments to my last post. I've been busy 1) going to see Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 with my kids (two longest hours of my liiiiiife!!! I HATE that screechy singing! Aaargh!!) and 2) thinking really hard about everything you said.
Well, you managed to make me reconsider. Possibly. I've done a short not so porny version and now I'm doing a longer more porny version which is more or less what was in the original with a few changes, bringing it closer to erotica than it is to porn. Once I'm done I'm going to weigh the two against each other and see which one works better with the spirit of the book. (Which, to be honest, isn't really that sexual until that point but obviously there's a reason for that.)
I think what it comes down to is that it's not meant to be a book for kids, it's a book for adults. And apart from the prudes *coughsconservativeAmericanscoughs* adults in general like sex. I mean, even if you don't go out of your way to look for erotica I think most adults don't mind and even appreciate a little nookie in their novel. If the fact that it's GAY sex makes them balk even if they've enjoyed the rest of the m/m romance... Well, that is their problem, one they should possibly take up with their therapist.
*breathes out* That felt good.
Also, like many of you pointed out, if an editor/publisher wants me to tone it down I can but I won't be able to add. Kinda like SPN's policy regarding horror stuff. You know, shoot it really disgustingly gory so when they're told to tone it down they can use what they actually wanted to use. Not that sex is gory or disgusting... Oh hell, you know what I mean.
Ok, back to work. (Which is unfortunately work work, not writing work. When is Easter again? *sighs*)
