As you may know I'm rewriting The Doors of Time into an original story in the hopes of being able to get it published sometime in the future. Apart from the obvious things like changing names and a few details to not make them quite as recognisable as Jensen and Jared there is other stuff as well. Correcting mistakes is one thing, plenty of those ( Read more... )

So thrilled you are trying to get Doors published. That whole story is special. I don't know, I felt so swept into the story when I read it, I thought it was perfect. I didn't even notice your "driving distance disaster" because I didn't really pay attention to the numbers I guess.

Now that I think back, if I really have to name one thing I'd like to see you elaborate more on is probably "Jensen's" time when he was institutionalized?

Oh, I so agree on this one! Cuz there isn't much I would actually change, the story is amazing. But yea that would be interesting to see.

Interesting yes - but I think more from a fan point of view.

As a published story, I think the mystery works better. The hints in my opinion are good enough and don't need elaborating because we can then empathize with the Jared character, because 'Jensen' certainly wouldn't (at least not yet) tell all that happened.

From a fan point of view - I so want to read what happened.

I actually think you're right there. For the book it would be superfluous, the mystery works better. Plus, as easy as you can explain the change in a character by what he's gone through the years he was gone, actually showing how that change happens is a lot harder. And a slow depressing progress.

Still, I have to admit I started making it up in my head in bed last night and it would make a interesting timestamp fanfic. I've been thinking I need to write something with the characters (as opposed to just editing what has already been written) in order to help me get them back into my head so... Who knows? *g*

I don't get that. That "distance/driving hours" thing is so inconsequential to the storyline, it's those readers' loss they let that stop them from taking in such a well told story!

Whoa! 188,000 words! I didn't realize that. They flowed so well that I was at the end before I even knew it, which kinda made me sad to realize I finished it.

So YAY! Timestamp! =D
