I know that I am pursuing the right profession (pie-in-the-sky dream: wildlife/zoo veterinarian) when the most disturbing thing out of all of that to me was the tiger penises.

Yep, the things humans will kill in the name of superstition or fashion.

Oh, I always wanted to be a vet but in the end I was too much of a coward and couldn't think of going away alone to a foreign country for as long as it would take to study for it. And to tell the truth I'm not sure I would have been able to handle having to put animals to sleep, especially healthy ones.

We don't really have zoos, just a farm animal zoo. Importations of animals isn't allowed except for pets and then they have to stay in quarantine for many weeks. Which is why we always go to zoos when abroad.

yeah, I think it's not for everyone :) though I think people are fascinated with it as a profession. some of the emotional management that you have to do is hard...but for me, it's not as much dealing with my euthanasia of the animals as clients who make off-handed decisions about their pets. I've had to assist in euthanasias for allergies...for arthritis...ordinary treatable conditions that people didn't want to "deal with."

for me, the zoo thing isn't as important as what I'm doing, though zoos are just a good avenue. I'm interested in reproduction of exotics / endangered species.

According to the woman, we're (women) aren't supposed to eat balls.

Hah! I think that's a myth created by men because they don't want us to get the magical testicle powers! *eats lots and lots and grows a beard*

I worked in a slaughter house once, stripping sheep. We used to play catch with the testicles. They're surprisingly similar to human testicles (as far as I can tell from fondling them) if perhaps slightly bigger. And sqquishingg them in your hand will make the strongest man squirm. lol

LOL!

When I was in college we used to have a mountain oyster festival every year after the cattle went to slaughter. It was much big fun and it used to crack me up how many people would get so grossed out that we were eating bull balls.

Well, being Texan, of course you know that I've eaten Prairie Oysters! Also known as Mountain Oysters. i.e. Cowballs.

Hey, you can fry anything and make it palatable.

But dog penises? Anything penises? I'm not saying I wouldn't ever, but not unless I were really, really, really hungry. For one thing, just think of all the frustrated girl doggies :)

*blinks* The name of The Blue Oyster Cult suddenly got a whole new meaning.

Why on earth do you call them oysters? They don't taste fishy! You Texans are all crazy. *ignores that we have a pastry called love testicles=ástarpungar*

Hey, don't worry about the girl doggies. I'm sure they're being eaten at the restaurant next door.
