Let's celebrate! My blog is 20 years old
20 years, huh? Would you believe they just flew by?
Can't help thinking of all the people I've lost track of, that stopped posting or deleted their LJ or, in too many cases, died. Knowing so many more of them might be dead and buried and I'll never know. People I used to chat with, that I considered my friends, even close friends. Who made me laugh and made me feel loved and seen and understood. And then one day they were just gone. Most often without as much as a wave.
But somehow I'm still here, although mostly quiet, lurking, reading but for some reason the spark is gone for conversations. It makes me sad. I miss the old days so very much. I miss the friends I made and I miss the porny chats and the sometimes more intellectual conversations. It really was the golden age of social media and what we've got now is so much worse, it's hardly worth mentioning. Only place not riddled with ads and forced by algorithms is Tumblr and it's a horrible place to build a community. After over a decade over there I can count the conversations I've had on my fingers and still have some to spare. I went there for the pretty boys, I stayed for the pretty boys plus the absurdism and left wing vibe. But it's a lonely place.
Anyway, happy 20th to me. I suspect, if they don't close this place down (we thought they would so many times and somehow it's still here) I'll still be here for my 30th, except I doubt there will be many left to read by then.
Man, this got gloomy. Sorry. Been a hard week. Finally looking a bit up, I hope. Maybe. We'll see.
